Community Ed Basketball is a wonderful recreational program for boys and girls in Grades 3-12; no prior basketball experience is necessary. The league's main purpose is to allow youngsters to participate in an organized league regardless of ability or prior experience. The emphasis is placed on all players receiving significant playing time during every game, teaching the players good sportsmanship, and making the program a positive and fun experience for all children.

General information for the 2025-26 leagues is below; click on the league registration links for
information specific to each league.

Registration & Pre-Season Information

Registration Process & Fees
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If a league reaches capacity, players are added to the waitlist in the order in which their registration is received. They will be offered spots if/when an opening occurs.
Any players who are on school, club or travel teams cannot participate in the Community Ed League.

The registration fee is $199. While we do not have scholarships available, you can set up a payment plan by contacting us at ceregistrar@abschools.org. A deposit is required at the time of registration, and the balance must be paid in full by the end of February.

Mandatory League Clinics
All participants are required to attend the opening clinics in November & December at the times and locations listed; schedules are posted on the registration pages. Players must be registered with Community Ed and have completed a practice availablilty and release form before the clinics.

The clinics give coaches and the League Directors the chance to evaluate each player’s skills so teams can be created with balanced competition and equal playing oppportunity for everyone. Proper team placement is difficult without these evaluations.

General Schedules

Practice Availability & Schedules

  • Each team practices one night per week at a set day & time.
  • A completed release form is required in order for players to take part in the league clinics.
A Google form will be sent the week of November 10 (or shortly after registration, if you register after the form is sent.)
  • On the form, please list a MAXIMUM of two weeknights (Monday--Friday) that your child is NOT available for practice. Teams are formed based on this information, so please provide accurate availability.
  • Notify us right away if your child's schedule changes. Parents/guardians can update their child's availability until the day before the league clinics.
  • You'll be notified of child's team and assigned practice day & time after the teams are formed; this occurs after the mandatory clinics.

If your child is available only one or two nights to practice, and/or has a regular conflict with Saturday games, it is better to register at another time.

Game Schedules

  • All teams play one game each Saturday.
  • Game times rotate each week. For example, if your child's league has games scheduled for 8-11am, you may have a game at 8am, 9am or 10 am.
  • Coaches & League Directors will provide the full schedule once the season begins.

Important Dates

  • Practices for most leagues will begin in mid-December.
  • Scrimmage games and/or skills clinics are typically held the second & third Saturdays in December.
  • League games will be played on Saturdays from early January through mid-March.
  • Games will not be played on the second weekend of February vacation.

Team Drafts

  • Coaches will draft teams within a few days after the clinics. They will contact families with their team placement and practice day & time within a few days after the drafts.
  • Requests to change practice nights after teams are formed may require a player trade, which can be disruptive and disappointing for other players.

We cannot guarantee that trades will be made, and we reserve the right to refuse a player trade after teams have been formed and notified.

Coaches & League Directors

In order for the leagues to run smoothly, volunteers are needed to serve as team coaches & League Directors. The final selection of coaches will be at the discretion of
Community Ed & the League Directors.

Student Coaches

  • Only 12th graders can coach for the Boys' High School League, and they should complete the online BHS Team Coaches form.
  • High School students in Grades 10-12 (including JV & varsity basketball players) are eligible to coach one team for Grades 3-8, and should complete the online Student Coaching Form (for Grades 3-8 leagues).
  • Student coaches may not have a partner who is on a high school or club team
for any sport during the basketball season.
It becomes an issue when both students are absent due to conflicts with their sports schedules.
  • All coaching requests will be processed only via the online forms.
  • Student coaches will be selected by the Community Ed Basketball Director & the League Directors; behavior during previous Comm Ed
basketball seasons will be taken into account.
