How to Schedule a Road Test

You have completed Driver Education - What are the next steps?

After you have completed your required driving lessons, observation and classroom instructions, and your parent or guardian has attended the required Parent/Guardian meeting, your Driver Education course is complete.

The next step is to schedule your Road Test. In order to schedule it, bring the following items to the Acton-Boxborough Community Education/Driver Ed office located in the Administration Building at 15 Charter Road.

  • Your yellow card
  • Your driver's permit (or a copy of it)
  • A $15 check payable to the Mass D.O.T.; this is their processing fee.

Approximately 5-7 business days after A-B Community Ed submits your paperwork to the RMV, students can go online to mass.gov/rmv and schedule a Road Test. There are two options for taking the Road Test:

Option One:
Student goes to the RMV with a parent, guardian or anyone over 21 years of age with a valid Massachusetts driver's license to take the test. The car must be in good working order with a current inspection sticker, and must have an emergency brake located between the driver and passenger seats. If you choose this option, you will schedule the test at mass.gov/rmv approximately 7-10 business days after your paperwork has been submitted. The process may take 20 minutes or more; please be patient. A helpful hint: We recommend that students pre-pay for their licenses and Road Tests while on-line. This will save time waiting at the RMV on the day of the Road Test. You may also want to pre-pay on the day you get your Learner's Permit.
Fees for Option One: $85 payable to Mass D.O.T. ($50 for the license, $35 for the Road Test). Option Two: A Community Ed instructor take the student to the RMV for a Road Test in one of our vehicles. Community Ed charges $100 for this service. If you choose this option, you will go online to mass.gov/rmv to schedule your road test at the Leominster RMV. These road tests are scheduled Monday - Friday at 9 am, 10 am, 11am, or 12 pm. Once the Road Test is booked, the student needs to email Rich Dushanek at the Community Ed office with the appointment information. Rich will schedule an instructor and confirm the appointment within 72 hours. On the day of the test, the Community Ed instructor will pick up the student at the A-B Regional High School one hour before the scheduled appointment. The student will return to school after the test. Please note: If Community Ed is taking your child to the RMV, we require that you pre-pay the RMV for the Road Test. Instructor availability is subject to change during school vacations and over the summer. Students need to check with Rich Dushanek in advance to determine instructor availability.
Fees for Option Two: $85 payable to Mass D.O.T. ($50 for the license, $35 for the Road Test), $100 payable to Acton-Boxborough Community Education.
A fully completed Class D or M Road Test application form is required for either of these options. You will not be able to take your Road Test without this form, filled out and signed by a parent. Leave the sponsor section blank.
