Winter Basketball

HS Field House
Community Ed Basketball is a wonderful recreational program for boys and girls in Grades 3-12. Registration is open to all players who do not play on a school team, or in a travel or club league. The league's main purpose is to allow youngsters to participate in an organized league regardless of ability or prior experience. The emphasis is placed on all players receiving significant playing time during every game, teaching the players good sportsmanship, and making the program a positive and fun experience for all children. General program information is listed below. More specific details on each league are included on the registration page for the specific league. Many questions are answered here so please read the general league information before emailing or calling.

REGISTRATION & PRE-SEASON INFORMATION
Registration Process & Fees:
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If a league reaches capacity, players are added to the waitlist in the order in which their registration is received. They will be offered spots if/when an opening occurs.
Any players who are on school, club or travel teams cannot participate in the Community Ed League. Parents can register their children, and will receive a 90% refund if their children later make those teams.
The registration fee is $199, and we unfortunately do not have scholarships available. You can set up a payment plan by contacting us at [email protected]. A deposit is required at the time of registration, and the balance must be paid in full by the end of February.
Refund policy: Players must withdraw before their league's clinic start date in order to receive a 90% refund. Community Ed will not issue refunds after those dates unless a player makes a school or travel team; the refund issued will be 90%. No refunds will be issued after the league clinic date.
Mandatory League Clinics: All participants are required to attend the opening clinics in November & December at the times and locations listed; schedules are posted on the registration pages. The clinics allow the coaches and League Directors to evaluate all players' ability in order to form teams that achieve balanced competition. This is difficult at best if players do not attend the clinics.

IMPORTANT DATES, GENERAL SCHEDULE & TEAM INFORMATION
Practice Schedules: All teams will practice one night per week at a fixed timed/day. Parents will be asked to submit a Google form with 3 practice nights (Monday-Friday) that work for their children. The form will be sent out in mid-November (or within a few days of registering, if registering after November 11). Teams will be drafted according to ability and player availability in order to form the most balanced teams possible. If you are unable to provide multiple nights for your child to practice, it will be difficult to place them on a team. Parents will have until the day of the league clinic to update their child's ability.
Team Drafts: Coaches will draft teams after the clinics and will contact players once the teams are formed, usually within a few days of the clinic. If you request a different practice night after teams are formed, it creates a 'player trade' situation. This causes disruption for coaches and is a disappointment for a player who is suddenly traded. We reserve the right to refuse a player trade after teams are formed, and we do not entertain trades after the season has begun.
Game Schedules: All teams play one game each Saturday. Games are schedule on a rotating basis on the schedule published for each league. For example, if your league has games schedule for 8-11 am, you may have a game at 8am, 9am or 10am, and the schedule will vary each week. Schedules will be provided by the coaches and League Directors once the season begins.
Important Dates:
Practices for most leagues will begin in mid-December.
Scrimmage games and/or skills clinics are typically held the second & third Saturdays in December.
League games will be played on Saturdays from early January through mid-March.
Games will not be played on the second weekend of February vacation.

COACHES & LEAGUE DIRECTORS
Adult Coaches & League Directors: For the league to run smoothly, volunteers are needed to serve as team coaches and League Directors. League Directors' children play at no cost; the final selection of the coaches will be at the discretion of the League Directors. Please fill out the online coaching form (for Grades 3/4,5/6, 7/8 Leagues) or contact us at [email protected].
Student Coaches: Only 12th graders can coach for the Boys High School League, and they should complete the Boys' High School (BHS) Team Coaches (Seniors only) High School students in Grades 10-12 (including JV & varsity players) are eligible to coach one team for Grades 3-8 with parent supervision, and should complete the Student Coaching Form (for Grades 3-8 leagues) Student coaches may not have a partner who is on a high school or club team for any sport during the basketball season, as we have found it to be a problem when both students have to miss due to their own sports' schedules.
All coaching requests will be processed only via the forms; no calls or walk-ins please. Student coaches will be selected by the League Directors.
Questions: We will provide the most up-to-date information here. Reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any other questions.
